A Great Disabled Access Day!
Saturday March 16th was Disabled Access Day and the Island held celebrations to mark the day for the first time. Despite the wind and rain there were some very successful events. Hovertravel held a Try Before You Fly event at both their terminals in Ryde and Southsea. People were impressed with the service and the Hovertravel team.“A fantastic event well done Hovertravel and thank u. We shall look forward to travelling with you ??””We attended this event yesterday.Top marks to Hovertravel! Staff were amazing.””Thanks to the really helpful staff at Hovertravel who gave disabled patrons like me a warm welcome. They were keen to answer any queries and were interested in listening to how the travel experience can be improved. Very encouraging!”For more information on travelling with Hovertravel see their website hereIsle Access also co-hosted an event with The Island Riding Centre and Adventure Activities. The event was held at the riding centre and the Isle of Wight Wheels for All project was launched. In addition to cycling there were any rides, bushcraft and archery. Unfortunately the poor weather meant it was unsafe to use the climbing wall.Over 160 people attended the event and plans are underway for another event later in the year.”Yes! Disabled people need to stay visible so that businesses continue to think about accessibility for all and view us as valued patrons. Congratulations to all those involved.””We all had a brilliant day. 14 of us visited the hovercraft this morning, then we all had a try on all the bikes this afternoon.””Thank you for a great day so good to chat to so many lovely people and try so many different activitiescan’t wait for summer to try some new things”
