Media Makers

Media Makers was formed in 2023 by way of a grant from IOW Council, to produce a film about young people’s mental health. The film was produced as a 4-day workshop.

6 young people were involved in the production, from planning, script writing, and filming to editing the finished film, as well as being interviewed about their own personal experiences. It was made in the context of a survey produced by the Youth Trust in 2022 where, out of over 3,500 responses, 48% of young people said they felt very lonely and isolated.

As well as experiencing loneliness, most of the group had learning differences such as autism, ADHD, or dyslexia.

The film gives a very powerful insight into the mental health of young people and has an encouraging outcome for young people.

Subject to funding, we hope to produce more films with young people who have either a disability, long-term health condition, or poor mental wellbeing.

Dayita Saggers-Heywood

I love working in the Film & TV Industry, working with different production companies gives you the chance to work with amazing creative people and also the chance to work/try different roles in the industry, such as Location Marshall’s, Runners, Crowd AD’s, Set PA’s and Production Coordinator’s for example. I have really enjoyed working each role over the years of my career. A few highlights have been shooting short documentaries for the BBC One Show and working in huge studios filming for StarWars.
