Disabled Access Day at The Island Ricing Centre
Saturday March 16th was Disabled Access Day and the Island held celebrations to mark the day for the first time. Despite the wind and rain there were some very successful events.Hovertravel held a Try Before You Fly event at both their terminals in Ryde and Southsea. People were impressed with the service and the Hovertravel team.“A fantastic event well done Hovertravel and thank u. The event was held at the riding centre and the Isle of Wight Wheels for All project was launched. In addition to cycling there were any rides, bushcraft and archery. Unfortunately the poor weather meant it was unsafe to use the climbing wall.Over 160 people attended the event and plans are underway for another event later in the year.”Yes! MP’s New Parliamentary Bill Promoting Access All Areas

MP for Denton and Reddish Andrew Gywnne, will be introducing a Bill to Parliament to make sure all taxi and minicab drivers are trained in disability equality. He announced this after attending the Access All Areas Lobby of Parliament last month where he heard from guide dog owners who told him that taxi and minicab drivers often to carry guide dogs.

‘Disability Hoists in Hotels’ Petition to Parliament

A Stafford man is campaigning to get disability hoists installed in all hotels and the issue has now been raised in Parliament. 31 year-old Daniel Baldawi, who has cerebral palsy and uses an electric wheelchair, is determined to get laws changed so that hotels have to provide ceiling hoists.
